Pic of my "new" '83 300SD

I bought this 300SD in Denver and drove it back to Phoenix. It is midnight blue with blue tex interior and has only about 135,000 miles on it. The best part is, after having purchased it, I was leafing through the documentation and found out that the engine was replaced 50,000 miles ago and that the transmission was replaced 12,000 miles ago. The brakes, shocks and struts, glow plugs and relay, and bearings were also replaced recently as well as the driver's seat was rebuilt. Since I bought it last week, I have already replaced the grill, the wheels and tires, the door vacuum pump, the antenna mast, a broken door-pull mount, and some interior instrument lights. Whew! Anyway, I think I really lucked out with this diesel and I hope it runs for years to come.

Great looking car! I just bought a digital camera today so I'll be taking some pictures of my cars too. Something terribly wrong must have happened to require an engine & transmission rebuild at such low miles, mostly likely due to user error (like running out of oil). But hey, at least you got an even fresher engine and transmission. Have fun!

Question:

If that's MB-Tex, why does mine look exactly like that (texture as far as I can tell, and overal pattern for sure) but the window sticker lists a pricy "palmino leather" option? Was the MB-Tex just suposed to look just like leather?

Beautiful car, definantly. I want one of them one day..

The chrome bundts are pretty cool. You need to upgrade to euro headlights and clear corners now!

You have a yard full of grass like that in Phoenix? In January?

And I thought it was a desert.

Nice car, I wish I could find a 300SD that looks that nice...

I was looking at one about 6 months ago, and it didn't look that nice...

Post replies

Ok, there were a lot of replies so I'll just address them all together )

Brad123D: I paid $3,900 for the car...but then again, on top of that, I had to pay for plane tickets, a hotel room, and a couple tanks of gas to get home.

wolf_walker: I am pretty sure my interior is tex. I had a friend with an '83 300D with a blue leather interior that looked and felt quite similar to the 300SD's tex.

vwbuge: I am definitely going to upgrade to the euro headlights soon, but I am not sure about the clear corners just yet. I kinda like the amber.

Ken300D: That is what we call a "winter" lawn...A large portion of Phoenix is not desert-like actually...it's kinda weird. )

You got a DEAL!!! Perhaps consider painting your grill insert black. It looks much better in my opinion. Or even in your case paint it Midnight.
