240 d odometer problem
My 240 d odometer stopped at 299,100 and won't move. I believe the previous owner did some work on the instrument panel at some point, so when I got it stuff doesn't work. The instrument lights for instance don't seem to be in their sockets. Dash is very dim. Fuel gauge also does not work. So now I have to top off the tank once a week because I can't tell how much fuel I have nor how far I've been
Thanks, Paul Roberts |

Typical problem. Do a search and you will find the instructions on how to fix it. There is a press fitted gear on a shaft that comes loose. You must take the shaft out, rough up the shaft and push the gear back on. Requires some finesse and a drill bit the size of the shaft to hold the odometer together while you take the shaft out, but it is a pretty simple repair.
I guess there is always the possiblity that the cable broke. Does the speedometer work?

I use a small pair of bolt cutters to "nick" the shaft, very "light handed" tho
