Air recirculating valve?

I just want to make sure that is what I plugged in an attempt to stop a hissing sound I am getting at about half throttle when letting off the pedal. Well, plugging the vaccum line didn't get rid of the sound. It seemed to quiet it a bit and it is not as prevelant, so what does that mean?

Could you be hearing your turbocharger spool down? It sounds more like a whine than a hiss.
Try this: take a three foot section of hose and put one end to your ear and move the other end all around the exuast manifold, especially where the turbo joins the manifold. I have found several MB diesels leaking there and it will produce a hissing sound.

I suppose it could be, but if I could drive with the hood open and hoses attached to my ears I wouldn't be here on this forum. JK. Thanks for the response. It only happens when letting off of the throttle and with throttle about half way depressed. I thought for sure it was going to be this air recirculating thing, but maybe wastegate???? Any replies always welcome.

Sorry---was just kidding---It only happens when letting off of throttle while driving---it might be turbo related. No sound when idling. It does sound a little like a whine, but there is a definite release of air from something. Thanks
