advice needed on hissing/whining sound
I have posted this a couple of times, but no replies. I'll try one more time. I apologize if this has been discussed before, but my searches have not led me to the solution. It sounded like the noise was similar to others air recirc. valve sounds so I attempted to plug the vaccum line to that to no avail.
Is the ARV similar to the EGR in that plugging the vaccum will do no good if the unit itself is not functioning properly? This problem occurs at about half throttle after accelerating just as I am letting off of the throttle. The sound is a squeal/screach followed immedietly by a releasing of air. I have a california 1984 300d. This is, I hope, the ARV that I plugged the vaccum to. Just left of the EGR. Thanks...RT

Anyone? Is it too hard to diagnose from my description?

Those of us with federal spec w123 turbodiesels don't have an ARV. That's probably why your posts are going unanswered. Hopefully someone with a CA spec w123 turbo will answer. Good luck.
