Unhappy My 240D saves a friend's life...

My 240D was in an accident.....

Coming from an offramp with a designated lane, and oncoming traffic in left lane supposed to watch from traffic coming from the onramp, I was hit as I entered from the onramp. The 1986 Oldsmobile struck me in the passenger side front door at around 45-50 MPH. My best friend Megan was sitting in the passenger seat. The impact smashed the glass, and smashed the door in. Megan suffered no injuries: not even any glass cuts. And I was untouched. But now Oskar the 240D has a custom plastic AMG window, but still drives. Thank god for this car, or Megan would've been injured or dead. I will get some photos up soon of the car. Thank god we were in a Mercedes. Today after school, she kissed my car.

Thank you Oskar, the 240D.
Thank you Mercedes-Benz.

Oskar was a great car. But Hermann the 300D waits to take his place. Cars can be replaced, but a best friend can't.

Kyle, sorry to hear about the crash.

I know you had patched some places with fiberglass. Was there any fiberglass near the impact point? If so, how did it fare?

Hmm

Yes, there were some areas that were patched up. And yes, some parts were hit...

They fared well actually. Some minor splitering, but it split as opposed to shattering and giving way. Did quite well. The car overall did it's job flawlessly: protecting it's passengers.

Lisa; my last GF was not in an MB in her accident. She dances in heaven now. Your friend Megan owes the car another kiss. So do Megan's friends, for they still have Megan to be friends with. You should get a kiss from all of them for driving an MB. Hopefully one of them will want you to kiss back soon.

Kyle, glad you're both okay.

My Mercedes mechanic told me that he sold a 123 to a girl that was going away to college at Oklahoma State. On her first trip over there, she rolled that car 4-5 times at about 75 mph. She got out and walked away with minor bruises.

These cars are great cars.

sorry to hear about your crash kyle,, but very pleased with the outcome!

an '89 vw jetta saved my son's life when it crashed and rolled at 70-mph so i can also attest to the benefits of being surrounded by german steel!

A Benz side story, when teaching hang-gliding in Ga, heard an awful crashing noise which turned out to be someone parked at the launch driving off the cliff! Turns out it was a borrowed mid 80's manual Benz, and I think the guy didn't lift the stick enough to get reverse, so instead of backing up, it started rolling forward, he panics, floors it, and launched it off an 85 foot cliff, then landed another 40 feet down the talus slope When I got down the cliff, you could see where the car landed grill first, shot him out the door, bounced and followed him, and came to rest on the wheels with him underneath, legs sticking out like the witch Dorothy dropped the house on.Unbelievably, he was still concious! After getting him out from the gas dripping wreckage, worrying we were both goint to go up in flames, while waiting for the rescue squad, there was time to look at the car. After at least 125 foot drop smack onto the nose, the passenger compartment wasn't compressed at all, and he survived with moderate internal injuries! On of those freak accidents that wearing the seatbelt probably would have killed him.

Yes

Thank you everyone for the sympathy.

Oskar was an awesome car. And I remember that day very well.

But Hermann is here and ready to rock, and Oskar did his duty.

He looks the same...except with a smashed in door.
