Lightbulb Does your '98-'99 E300 Turbo Make Noise??

Hey guys. My '99 E300 turbo doesn't make any audible spooling noise. All of my other turbo vehicles have, and I found it strange to not hear anything. My mom also has a '99 E300, and in her car, you can EASILY hear a turbo spooling noise, as in my truck or other diesels. I figured something might be wrong with my turbo, had the dealer check it. They said it was fine (I guess I'll trust they checked it). Then I had them check my moms, which they also said was fine. I'm trying to figure out which one is fine, and which one isn't, because hers CLEARLY makes a turbo spool noise and I can't hear mine at all. Guys with this car please sound off!

Well, I can't exactly "sound off." Can't hear a thing from mine.

I also hear nothing in the way of spooling up of the turbo, but I do hear more engine noise when the turbo comes up to speed and the pedal is still squashed. Jim

It just boggles my mind that hers is so clearly heard spooling, and mine is silent. I've always thought mine was broken or turned down in some way.

Lightbulb my experiences...

Lightman, I've driven a 98 that made audible turbo noise, and I've also driven a 98 that made no turbo noise whatsoever... both had the same acceleration. I don't know what would cause the difference, and it confuses me too.

whistle while you turbo

At low RPMs (+- 2k ) I can hear the turbo spool up when I have the windows down and am driving next to something solid or maybe in a tunnel. With windows up, I've never heard the turbo on my 98 E300.
