just picked up 1984 300sd for $700...what do you guys think?

Well...just bought an 84 300SD turbo deisel and she's got a little over 171k on her. Starts right up and drives like a dream. No shakes doing 70mph (that's all I did on the tollway-cops all over) and the air blows ice cold and the heat is toasty warm which is just fine now! This was advertised for $800 (which I probably would've paid) but haggled down a bit. You see the lady who owned the car was the second owner (in the same family-her dad bought it new and she gave me the papers dating all the way back to when her dad bought it).

The only downside is it was in a slight wreck the other day.She told me another benz owner side swiped her switching lanes (in a C class at that) Anyway, I took a look at the engine compartment and its flawless, the interior is warm with NO tears and the seats and armrest have new sheepskin covers on them. She and her husband just got the car from her dad as a gift about a year ago and had it shipped from New England to Florida (where they were at the time) and then they drove it 6 hours when they moved to Atlanta. I have the records of all maintenance that was and has been done since new and everything is up to date.

Brand spanking new power steering pump, brand new Dunlop tires, new hoses, her dad purchased an extra sound deadening thingy for the engine compartment for when the one on it wears out and its in brand new condition still in the trunk in the bag! Tinted windows in great shape and the transmission shifts great. I've already ordered the drivers fender it needs and I'll probably replace the hood too although it looks like it can be straightened out. I just wanted you guys thoughts on the deal before I actually get the title and everything Tuesday (when her hubby gets back with the ACTUAL title-) I wanted to get another 126 that's better on gas than my 560 because that gas is killing me about now Wanted to get any thoughts on whether you thought this was a decent deal? I sure do because I could always use it as a "running" parts car although I'm pretty sure it will end up getting fixed up reeeeeal good! Thanks and if you want to see the pictures of her go to autotrader.com and in the search you can just put in the car search as mercedes benz 300sd and the price range-max out at $1000 for that year and it should come up (the url is tooooo long) and its the only one in Atlanta anyway.

Thanks again and let me know what you think

Sounds like a great steal you got there Alan. What color and when are you gonna fire up that digital camera or scanner so the rest of us can see the real car?

Guess I'll hafta look at autotrader, but afraid I find something to buy with no place to keep it.

Wink

Nice deal but the new 126 won't do so well on gas either.

For $700 you bought a power steering pump and a set of tires. You got the rest of the car for free! Jump all over that deal.

Here it is: 300SD

Good catch. If you were closer, I could fix you up with a bumper, hood and fender from my gold parts car.

I'm serious when I say that I'd DEFINATELY consider that! The bumper is actually in great shape but the bumper mount was broken off on the driver's side so all I'd really need is the fender and hood ( and the filler for the headlight). Would you consider this? The fender that I'm getting from the guy here is a used black one (of all colors). I was just telling my wife that maybe I should try to hold ouit for a gold one because this guy ususally has different colors being used of course and I also wanted to try some other boneyards before I commit. I'd pay whatever you needed to ship it even if they had to pack it,etc for the trip. Let me know.

I'm about to go back to pick her up and bring her home for a little clean up (I have to leave my saab in her garage because my buddies are working/out of town and the wife can't go because we just had a little girl a few weeks ago). Boy do I feel like a kid who can't wait for Christmas! I'm sooo ready to rip off the fender, detail that interior and clean the wheels/tires and polish and wax her up I don't know what to do with myself! I know the rest of the world will be thinking why in the hell would he be so thrilled to drive THAT but I already see the finished product in my head (I hope someone here can relate). Well, I'll be sure to update you guys on this journey and hopefully y'all can guide a new deisel guy on the block

Mike, I'll be sure to fire up the digital cam too and keep you all posted. I'm ready to put my extra set of euros on this baby I can taste it but for now I'll probably have to at least put my flush OEM lights that were from the 560 on her. I'll know once I really get into it if I have any body issues underneath the fender, etc because I'm wondering about mounting the lights and the filler underneath, etc because they're trashed. I'll take some pics of that once I get her home in the garage. Thanks guys and keep the thoughts coming!

Alan
