Cool New 92 300D 2.5 owner

I have had my first MB a 92 300D 2.5 about 4 weeks now, this was purchased on ebay. the car had 77490 miles at the time I purchased it. I had the car checked out prior to delivery. It got new rear shocks, front flex disk, new belt tensioner shock, new glow plug and fluid/filter changes. I have put 800 miles on it, drives like no other car I have driven. I have had the belt tension shock replaced twice, once when purchased and two days ago. I hope the first was just a defective part. any thoughts? I'm also working on a knock at idle which goes away at around 900 rpms.

Sounds like the shock must have been bad out of the box. Congratulations on the car purchase, and welcome to the forum.

thank you

I look foward to being an active MB owner. I'm trying to talk my wife into the purchase of an W123 300D for her.

Congratulations on the car! You mentioned a knock at idle that disappears @ 900 rpm... it may be something as simple as a worn/compressed motor mount. It may be something loose on the engine itself, maybe a broken p/s pump bracket (long shot). You really have to stick your head in the engine compartment when it's idling below 900 rpm. I once had an old Volvo diesel that had a hairline cracked aluminum p/s pump bracket that attached to the engine. It took forever to figure out that was the rattling at less than 1000 rpm. Try the motor mounts though. Do a search for motor mounts, there's quite a few that can tell you how to identify one that's compressed or what the symptoms are of worn engine mounts.

Congrats. Great car, yours is a mere babe. I'm on my second belt shock in six months.
