Bought 84 300dt motor off EBay
Hello, just thought I'd share with you the fact that I think I got a good deal on EBay for a 1984 300d-t motor for 500 bucks.
I will have to pay about 170 shipping, but the motor, if as described when I talked to the owner, will still be well worth it at 130k miles and most accessories attached like the starter, steering pump, cruise control actuator, turbo, etc. I didn't really need this thing, but at that price, at some point it'll save me some money I'm sure. I was thinking of locking the clutch-fan and seeing how this set-up would do in a kit plane. Maybe some kind of gear reduction for the prop to take advantage of the torque this motor can give.
Just kidding, but I don't know what it is, as I also got a HP 5.7 vortec to put in my truck with 156k on it , yet the truck still has great compression and no oil burn, something's wrong with me! Thanks for entertaining the post and I'll let you know how it is when I get it in a week and a half or so. Thanks, adam |

I wonder if anyone has ever done a swap of a 603 into a 123 body? Anyone know if the bellhousing is the same pattern or if the length would fit?

Somebody must have had a high opinion of their old 603 engine in that auction, didn't they? Reserve not met at $400.
My personal value limit was $200. I buy whole running cars for $450. Ken300D

WOW! Whole running cars for 450? that's amazing! Do you think I paid too much for the 84 300d motor with 130k and literally all of the accessories?
Please let me know what you think. Thanks,Adam |

I'd pay that amount if the miles were verified.
Having never had a car with under 200k (MB), I was noticeably impressed with my brother's new MB. AT 156, the valves and virtually everything was cleaner, tighter and better functioning. We're trying to build an adapter plate to transfer the 300 turbos into Jeeps. Don

$500 for a reasonably low milage engine with "goodies" attached is worth the money to me.
I was really lucky to find a complete 84 300D-T engine in the recycler for $75. The head was off since the owner got no compression on cylinder #3. Turned out that the valves had never been adjusted in 154,00 miles and #3 exhaust wasn't closing. He paid $350 for a used engine and was still quite happy. These old diesel engines are very easy to rebuild. Now I have a completely rebuilt engine just waiting till it's needed Also bought a used transmission and will rebuild it next month. I think I'll look for a clean body 84 cd.
