block heater cord
This morning, 14 degrees F, gf attempts to unplug the block heater from the extension cord, and pulls the entire male end off the block heater cord, amidst a little flash of light/jolt of electricity...
So, now I have a frayed, fried-up looking cord hanging from the front bumper... and no block heater. Think it is possible to repair the cord, i.e. slice in some new cord with a new male end on it? I really hope I needn't replace the whole thing, surely not- Advice? Thanks, JAS |
You can buy a new cord -- they don't cost very much...

Home Depot will have a good quality replacement male cord plug. Hubble is a good brand name that should be easier to grab because it is larger and industrial grade.

Okay, easier fix than I thought then-
Now, how does the other end attach to the heater element in the block? |
if your cord is still good and long enough, just cut the frayed ends off, strip the insulation back about 3/8 inch and connect the wires to the screw terminals.

Hardware store/HomeDepot/Lowes A good, cheap and safe fix.

Picked up a universal 3 prong male end- it unscrews, so I can strip back the cord on the heater, wire it in, and it's done. Complete with large, safety orange end grip, maybe the gf won't pull this one apart...
From a local hardware store, $2.59. Thanks for the advice, JAS |
