Bird in Dash??

When I put the fan on low, there is a chirpping sound that is driving us crazy! Any ideas on how to stop this chirpping?

Also, any suggestions on a fix it manuel for a 1990 300E?

Thanks for your help!!
Cliff

My bird in my dash only chirps when I make a LEFT Turn! I wonder how it knows.

Guys, the bird chirping is the bearings in the blower motor. They are in need of some oil, and on the W124 cars I am not sure how you get to the blower motor. On the W123 it is relatively easy, but in either case if you do a search you will likely find some data. Jim

That is what I figured. I just cannot figure out the "left turn only" aspect. Slow, fast, it does not matter, it chirps quietly. No other time.

On my 81 300SD the blower only chirps when you hit the brakes real hard. At first I thought it was brake pads, but it is the blower

Mine also chirps when on low speed, and my foot is on the brake. What would cause this?

I get a peep like a mouse....

I don't have the chirp but interestingly enough I have what sounds like a mouse occasionally and only when I have a passenger. It kind of sounds like a whistly kind of peep but why would I only hear it when I have a passenger? My passengers hears it as well so I know I'm not hearing things.

Guys,

The chirping is an event that becomes apparent when the bearing sees loads on a particular set of surfaces that may not be the normally loaded surfaces. When the fan is spinning it has rotational inertia that resists direction and attitude changes much like a gyro. When the car changes direction the fan's rotational inertia tries to resist it by providing an opposing load through the bearings to the fan housing and then the car, which temporarily loads the bearings on the surfaces that make the squeals. Same with applying the brakes, it changes the load points on the bearings enough that you get a noisy response.

Now that passenger in the seat may have to fess up about what they ate or something, but if it was me making the noise and you blamed the fan, well, why would I argue?

Hope this helps, Jim
