I am pretty sure that you'll have to start with removing the wiper screen? I am speaking of the chrome grill that surrounds the wipers. Do you just want to remove the motor or the whole linkage assembly also?
Good Luck

I found the motor under that air inlet screen. Thanks.
The wipers needed a push on the arm to get started. I lubed all of the pivit points in the linkage and shafts, thinking the system would start by itself. Well I was wrong. It still needs that push to start. Anybody have an idea that will fix the thing? Thanks again |

In my 78 450SEL the problem was the seal in one of the wiper arm shafts failed allowing water into the pivot area corroding the bearing surfaces. Try soaking the pivot areas with WD-40 and see if that loosens things. Otherwise, take it apart and clean everything. I couldn't find a replacement seal.

If you have to just push it to ge it started, try using them with the screen off so you can see all the linkage. If you have to pull the motor out a bit or push it in it could be the transmission. This sounds like the problem my brother had with his 190D. The transmission comes with the motor that I have always seen so you just have to replace the motor.
Good Luck David
