lift points, MB body

Hello Everyone
Lift points, Mercedes Benz body.
Danger:
Never go under a car without jack stands too support vehicle weight, jacks can and do fail catastrophically every day.

Look for the rubber pads on newer models, if they are missing, get some new pads.
Reposted as a stand alone topic, for easy search.

While I don't lift my car by those points right near those points further in are big beefy frame members. I go to the first couple inches of the beam to stick a jack under in front leaving anywhere convienent in the rest of the beam free for a safety jack, if I want to lift both front sections at once I use the beam under the motor to center the jack on. I prefer to use at least one safety jack here, especially if I'm working on both sides of the car. In the rear I lift up off of where the rear rubber mount is near the factory jacking tube. I always just stick a piece of 1"x4" pine in my jack cups so that there aren't just four little contact points on the frame.

How about 123 chassis cars ?
I have seen pictures somewhere of a ' weldment' which has a rod that goes into usual jacking tube.... and then goes down under the car with a round deal made for putting a floor jack against it... ( this is my assumption from what it looks like) Can anyone confirm this .... or correct my impression ?

For W123 cars, I prefer to position the floor jack under the front frame rail (improper car grammar since it's a unibody, but I'm not sure what else to call it) or under the rear subframe mount.

When jacking my W123, I use a piece of wood on the jack itself, to prevent marring up the underside of the car. For the front of the 123 I place the jack at the frame beam. For the back I place it at the point where the rear trailing arm is connect to the body.
For the 124 I still use a piece of 1/2 inch thick wood and use the jack pads that came on the car.

Those stupid jacks. I took the tire off my w115 body ('75 300D) once. I went inside for a few minutes and when I went out, the car was off the jack and on the ground! That taught me to chock the wheels, but what if my wife needed to change a tire on the side of the road? Poor engineering.

Give your wife the Merz 800 number (I don't have it handy right now) for Roadside Assistance. They will come and put in fuel, change tire, jump battery.. all for free. If you need major work, they'll tow you to nearest Merz dealer. I've used them more than once. Do not be mislead by people who say the car must be under some sort of warranty, all Mercedes have this service from birth till death.

Isn't it 1-800-4Mercedes? I remember the name is longer than the number.

When dialing the MB number, it really comes out as 1-800-FOR-MERC (1-800-367-6372)

I never heard of that one, is that specifically roadside assistance?

Well I hope the other line will work in that case, because I doubt I'll remember that number. For some reason my 83 has ALL the original paperwork but no owner's manual.

Yes, it still works. The first menu choice on 1-800-For-Merc is roadside assistance.
