w123 fuse box.
Hi to all.
I wonder: Is there anyone that has upgraded his fuse box on his w123? Meaning swapped out the old type and put in a newer atc type one. I'm electricly challenged but would like to do this swap. It seems to me that it woud be a nice upgrade and also would make it easier to change fuses. Louis. |

I have never seen an ATC replacement box for any Mercedes. Just the fact that you will have to move a fistfull of wires is enough to make one shudder with fear, I understand replacing this OEM fusebox is a real PITA. Look underneath if you don't know what is involved, it is a nightmare.
Besides that, changing Euro fuses is not all that much a problem! Also, there is a plastic tool made for this that allows you to do it without fear of shorting something. DDH

I agree with dieseldiehard, it would be more difficult to do than it is worth. Just change those aluminum fuses out with the newer style gold plated fuses and settle with that. I've never shorted one out, I never disconnect the battery with it either (I like playing with fire, until I get burnt! ).

My car was melting 30A fuses because of a bad blower and AC compressor clutch, etc. The red fuses would melt away to nothing.
Melted a lot of the fusebox innards, burned the paper inside. But all the fuses still hold int he place, and Ive not had a problem in the last 10k of driving. So I think that says a lot about the quality of the OEM fuse box setup. Id leave it. JMH
