Finally got the injector tester set up!
Didn't like the glycerin filled "precision" gauge as it was hard to get an exact pop pressure (because of the fluid dampening), so I added a 4-1/2" dry gauge to the mix, works great with both gauges on as I can test and verify on the same unit.
OK, so it's pretty boring for most people, just thought I'd show pics of our new toy for those who like tools.

Did you buy that or did you build that? What did it cost you?
I doubt I could afford anything like that anytime soon, but something like that could come in really handy... Do you have the ability to adapt to different injector thread sizes? |

Nice! One question: what do you use to let the pressure down when you're finished with an injector?

Have a few different adapters, but with a lathe and some bar stock, I can make about any adapter I need. It came with an adapter for a cummins, so I made the adapter for the Bosch injectors out of bar stock (look closely in the pic).

Nice tester!
I built a crude version (works well, though ) from a two ton bottle jack, 3/4" NPT tap, plumbing fittings,metric/NPT fittings, PVC reservoir, 3000psi gauge(glycerin), old IP injector line and a touch of JB Weld. Mazola oil as my test liquid (my wife appreciates the garage not smelling too garagey). Clever idea on the non-dampened additional gauge. Where did you find a source of assorted shims? (BoschUSA was of no help when I talked to them).

"Where did you find a source of assorted shims? (BoschUSA was of no help when I talked to them). " These are the shims to correct the pop off pressurs. yes? I wondered how I would change anything, if need be, when I borrewed a pop tester last year. It seems having some assorted shims would be a "must".

When I first heard about this unit on the mbz.org listserv, it was on sale for $99. Can't vouch for the quality or accuracy though. Without access to the shims, I think these things would only be good for basic diagnostic work. They'd also be helpful with diagnosing the spray pattern and pop pressure on CIS injectors for gasser rigs too. |
