1982 300TD Maintenance

Hello MB dieselers,

I am going to get some work done that is a bit out of my league on my 1982 300TD. I am
bringing it to the only reliable MB mechanic in the area: Automaster. At $70/hr labor I still
think I will be getting a deal because they know what they are doing and there will be little
knogen scratching. I am wondering if anyone can think of any other routine maintenance
that I should request since they will be doing the following:

1. ENGINE WASH
2. REPLACE ENGINE SUSPENSION
a. MOTOR MOUNTS* W/ALUMINUM COVER PLATES
b. TRANSMISSION MOUNT REAR
c. ENGINE SHOCK ABSORBERS AND MOUNTS
3. REPLACE RACK DAMPENER BOLT ON INJECTION PUMP
4. REPLACE VOLTAGE REGULATOR
5. REPLACE FLEX DISCS on driveline

Thanks,

Jared

I suggest you do this yourself. It's a $17 part and takes less than 5 minutes to do, even if it's your first time. If the shop has a minimum work time, this will kill your deal.

I really suggest that you do any and all work that you think you have the skills to do. You may think $70/hr is cheap, but you will find that it adds up VERY quickly.

How many of these cars do you see on their lot getting worked on?

I would make sure that the pivot points on the trottle linkage get lubed good upon completion of the engine wash. I would not replace the flex disc unless they needed it. You can determine if they need to be replaced by a good visual inspection.
