Evans Waterless Coolant

I'm considering using the Evans waterless coolant when I put my 300SDL back together. Has anybody here converted their diesels to use this stuff?

P. E. Haiges has done it and loves the stuff. Just perform a search here for Evans coolant.

I remeber that P. E. Haiges uses it. Are there any others?

I had some questions regarding modifications. I know these weren't addressed in the old threads.

Did the cooling systems have to be modified in any way, other than a zero-pressure cap?

mplafleur,

P E H here from Adamb's house in Mississippi.

No modifications to the cooling systems on my 300SD or 300 SDLwere needed. As far as the radiator cap is concerned, I just leave it loose.

The installation notes talk about pump location, resevoir location, which side of the engine it's on and location of tubing. I wanted to see if we were all ok with that.

Which cars do you have running with this?

I don't understand this... It must cost MORE than water.....
How many salespersons were required to hold PEH on the ground and extract his wallet from his pants ?

Leather,

Hey, I'm thrifty or frugal, not cheap. If I determine something is worth the price, I'll buy it. Example: I buy MBs don't I? Same for Evans coolant.

BTW: Evans costs about $25 per gallon including shipping. But remember, since you don't mix 50% water with Evans coolant, you need twice much as regular antifreeze.

Great! So no special thermostat, no moving lines around, no holes in the waterpump. Just evacuate, dry, fill, & go.

MP,

That's about it: clean, dry and refill with Evans.

I used a hair dryer to blow warm air thru the block, radiator and heater core to get all the water out. Don't use a high wattage dryer, it can't circulate the air fast enough and will overheat. About 500 watts is enough and leave it on for 24 hours or more.
