My First Diesel!

Having given up in my search for the "perfect" W123 diesel, I settled for an almost perfect W126 diesel. A 1981 300SD with 136K miles on it. It has been in the same family for its entire life, all of which was spent in the SF Bay Area...NO RUST.
The exterior is in good shape but the interior is a little rough, well I wanted a car I could work on. See pic below, with more to follow.

Another Image, with some nasty cropping to get the file size smaller.

Nice lookin' car!! Gotta love MB"s real leather seats, eh? My seats look very similar (except for being "pink"-omino), in spite of the rest of the interior looking good.

I don't know about the headlight wiper conversion; in fact, except for people who've put Euro lights on, I don't know of anyone who's done it...

Again, congrats on the purchase!! Now you gotta change your sig...

Is it just dirty where it says "300SD"? At pindelski.com, which is now a subscription site, he gives step-by-step instructions to repairing cracked leather seats like that. It involvoes a puddly like substance I believe along with sanding and of course dying, but the fact is that it mkaes them look like new when your done with them.
Thanks
David

P.S.
It is leather isn't it? It seems to be especially since it looks sop bad with only 136k miles. MB-Tex would most likely still look new.

560 SEL For Sale

At this point make me a "reasonable" offer and I'd probably take it. At this point it has to go with three Mercedes I am, as my wife says, two over the limit. Would you like some pictures? I had seen that article about the leather repair on Pindelski's web site before it became a pay site, I don't know if I'm willing to pay just to go back and look at it again.

leather seats

Do a search for Leatherique and/or visit their website to see some miracles done on old leather seats. I purchased some and plan to refurbish a weathered blue set when the weather warms.

Thumbs up

Chris, it looks like a great car! It's rare to find a one-owner Mercedes with low miles these days. I especially like the headlight conversion.

How much did you pay for it, if you don't mind my asking?

The color is the same as my 190D 2.5 Turbo... very nice!

If I had it to do over again I wouldn't use the lights from the newer model but would buy the aftermarket Euro lights and install them instead. Much smoother look.
I agree completely. My 87 is stock and the plastic around the US headlights does not hold up after 300k.

Euro lights are glass which is a much better fit to the quality of the rest of the car.

Euro light$ are on my li$t.

Well, if you think you had paid too much, check out what this guy is asking for these cars here:
