I searched but I have to ask...

My cruise control started doing some goofy stuff tonight on the interstate. To make a long story short... It WILL engage but doesn't hold the selected speed. Last week it started "spiking" about 8mph beyond the selected speed. Tonight it will just slow down until it disengages. It is definitely engaging but not "pulling it's wieght". It will not accel with the stalk nor will it resume with the stalk. All it will do is engage and then slow down then disengage.

Can you help me find the problem? BTW, 1985 300SD

Kevin

The Performance Products catalog has a nice description of the probably things wrong given certain symptoms.... and they allow the ' trial' installation of the computer .... and if that does not cure your problem you can return it.... in good condition of course... mine works so I don't remember exactly what they said.... everyone should have that catalog because it has good exploded line drawings of the engine and stuff.. with the proper names.... nice to have for phrasing questions here...
I don't know if Phil can do the same trial loan on the computer...

If you are fortunate to have access to wrecking yards that allow one to test a module before purchase (maybe with a deposit or something) that is great. I have bought ECU's from junk yards for $50 that were fine but I also have seen them fail shortly afterwards

I highly suggest sending your cruise module to General Development Labs for repair and calibration. The owner is an engineer that retired from an aerospace Co. These guys know their stuff:

Bookmark that url! It is worth keeping for future needs.

RE: Performance Products
Perf Products catalogs are worth keeping for their knowledge base. Their prices are a bit uh, pricey though. Its better if you can go to the source!

"Nuthin' but MB parts in it" ---Kevin

UH , YES, that is true.... were you expecting maybe VW parts after you told them what kind of car you had ? LOL

Or are you saying you can not find the exploded parts drawings and the advise on stuff like the Self Leveling Systems and the Cruise Control diagnostics ?

I also get a Ford Trucks catalog from them.... but I hesitated to suggest it to this forum.... not ANY MB parts in it...

Hi Kevin.

Did you have a blown taillight bulb that
you replaced before these symptoms started?

If you did you might have replaced it with a
US wattage bulb(1156-1157)and that might
be messing up your CC.

If not then just ignore this post.

The performance products catalog does mention
this,though.

Louis.

Hey leathermang,

Thanks for that info. I really appreciate it. It does give me some possibilities to check into. I fiddled with the antenna the other night and might have lossened some of those ground wires. I also have an actuator from another car that will fit. I might try it as well.

Why does my catalog not have that info in it?

I don't think it has been in the last 3 issues.

Leathermang's looks like it is last years.
