different propeller shaft lengths....info needed

Hello all

i am trying to stuff a manual tranny into my muttmobile...however the automatic tranny is about 3" longer than the manual i can use...so - i need to make a new propeller shaft.

Does anyone know if the W123 chassis car had different length shafts available? I have a 230 and the shaft was straight...we pulled a larger more plump looking shaft from under the bench and it is the same length with same spline, same nut....can not find a part number, could it be a w126 w124 part, i dont think it matters.

i am talking about the shaft from the tranny to the carrier bearing.

thanks a lot
Jake

if it works

Hello BF_JC230
If it works, use it.
I have done mix and match before.
The only rule; if it works, use it..........
If it does not work, keep trying.......
Your only other option is to find a race shop; they will guide you to a drive shaft fabricator.
Have a great day.

thanks

i too am a try it till ya get it guy, my pop really instills in me if there is a will there is a way...

we make our own drive shafts, that not the problem...we need to gain 3 inches this time around though, so a longer MB part would be a good start. other wise we will have to find / do something.

what we did last time was take a spare american universal output shaft, lathe it to sleeve inside the turned MB shaft after it was cut to length, bored and trued - then we plug weld / roset weld the two together - spin balance and make sure its true...

thanks
Jake
