HIJACKING OWN THREAD/WHERES G.P. STRIP FUSE? SD pic database... 126 '84
For right now I'm just loading these pics, work on the text later, but planning on getting a pictoral list of SD parts to help the confused new MB owners. Now is later so here goes. This one is what a bad vac connector looks like. Was hard to see unless bent over. I'll get a better pic of it later, but is that the tach unit? Passenger side wheel well...
suddenly looking at another SD that won't start, need all the tips I can for when I get there. Searched all the usual stuff, filters, priming, algae, but can anyone point out where the G.P. strip fuse is in the pics? Last edited by 240dnewbie; 03-11-2004 at 11:43 AM. |

more..must have been a little groggy during photo labling..
Lower no. 1...power steering pump Upper no. 1... cruise control? 3... fuel filter, and it's the banjo fitting on top with the return lines on it that is where you loosen and bleed it, right? 4.. manual primer handle (the circular one) and primary fuel filter (white cylinder) Last edited by 240dnewbie; 03-09-2004 at 03:17 PM. |

Motor mount with cracked top plate. How important?

Memory seats? But how does it actuate? The buttons (if they are buttons) don't poke out enough to push. I like how it looks like a little front seat..

C'mon, somebody has to know what the socket is for in the second pic? BTW, yes I'm getting obsessed with hearing the engines lovely roar and the waft of bio-d in the air....

The socket for the second pic holds the tachometer amplifier. The #1 is if my memory serves the bus connector for the tach, and the #3 in that photo is the glow plug timer. If you take the plastic cover off there is a flat shiny fuse that will blow from time to time and make it very hard to start all of the sudden,
Photo three upper #1 is the cruise control servo. |

2 — this looks like the connector that goes from the GP timer to the actual glow plugs but it appears to be in the wrong place.
4 — hood release cable adjustment The device in the first photo is a "vacuum amplifier" (this model of MBZ does not use a vacuum CC servo).

Well thanks for the replys. Old Dies, What is a tach amp, and why would you only plug it in sometimes? I was imagining it was for a remote starter or something...
And for R Leo, is that the amplifier for the transmission, or for the cruise control? |

Neither of my cars have it but, my son's 85TD does. It somehow works in conjunction with the vacuum bleed valve on the IP and the turbo boost pressure to provide more consistent shifting under moderate throttle settings. To get reasonably good shifts out of his, I believe that we dosconnected the hose you are holding in the above pic. But, his transmission is questionable. More about the vacuum amp and, the entire system can be found here: http://www.continentalimports.com/ser_ic20242.html

Yes, when it looked like I was getting an automatic, I started obsessively re-reading that article. But it mentions '85 as the year of the vac amp. Could this be a retrofit onto my '84?

Maybe yours is a late '84 model?

No, it's 11/83 , but has a sticker that says it complies with the '84 emission regs.
