window stopped working, motor is fine
Hello, all of a sudden my rear left window stopped working. I could still hear the motor so I thought it was the "window regulator guide jaw" how many had mentioned. When I took out the door panel, I found out the window had come loose of the window regulator. I also found out the piece that holds the window was badly rusted. I decided to try to put the regulator guide back on the window. This worked in the since that I was able to lift the window up again. But, when the window went back down, the guide got loose from the glass window again. My question is what should stop the guide from coming out of the glass? Is the problem that it is so badly rusted that it can't hold on? Here are some pictures.

the structure of that piece looks to be poor. I would email someone on ebay who is parting out a car like yours and see if they have one in good shape. Even if you were to get it to work somehow again... I would be afraid that it will break off again soon. Hope this helps

Ok, I have talked to two different parts companies and they both are saying that I am going to need to replace the whole glass because that metal piece is not sold alone. Can anyone confirm this? Is there an easier "work-around"?

Yup, the glass comes with the bracket attached. I had the same problem on my old '81 240D. Try your local junk yard. You should be able to ge the glass assembly for cheap. Its a fairly easy DIY job.

You could try...
You could probably refit the window into the arm by using some strips of fabric and a good glue like Barge Cement...
I'd cut the fabric into short strips and then glue it to the glass and then to the arm. depending upon the amount of friction caused by the weatherseal around the door and the glass you may have to use heavier pieces of fabric to get it to effectively wedge into place. Might be a cheap short term fix at least until you can find the parts to replace the glass. One other idea might be to simply clean up the arm as much as you can and then insert the window glass, then epoxy the sh___t out of the whole thing. Better to have it out of the car so you don't epoxy the motor and anything else that might be below the window... Although looking at the pics there might not be enough metal there to hold...

got duct tape?
I fixed my window problem. I used Manco Industrial Grade "Duck" Tape and some metal clips. The tape will hold the up/down force. The metal clips will hold the side to side force and prevent the duct tape from being overloaded. I guess this will be a "project" also to see how strong duct tape really holds. If I still own the car when it breaks again, I will post a follow-up to see how long it held.
