I have no idea why I get a high from working on cars, seriously.
Some guys get high on golf or stocks or having parties or chasing the ladies, but I actually cant wait until its 4:30 today and I can take a run over to the nearby U PULL IT junkyard to look at a 300D core for rebuilding. Or why I took off yesterday and had the day of my life working on my car in 30 mph winds and on 2 hours of sleep.
I think part of the reason is that Mercedes W123 cars are so well constructed and so fun to work on. The only other car I enjoy is my Volvo 940 Turbo which is getting some neat mods, too, to boost the HP
I guess I could afford a really nice car ( ie qualify for a loan and be poor in everything else) like a BMW or Maxima, but i would always rather have a Mercedes W123 Diesel and I am looking to buy another one and redo another engine.
I like they way they look and drive..

I can relate ,am in process of putting a near perfect dash in my 86 Euro 500 SE (old one is blue and has a dozen cracks new one is black I think it will look good with blue leather interior)sure is cool how well they are built in places that normanly no one sees. I don't like working on other makes except simple old trucks..........

Although the self satisfaction that comes from keeping my cars going is good therapy, I certainly don't see it as the best times of my life.

I understand why this an outlet and fulfilling.

I'm like that too, for some reason when I start working on my car, I forget about everything else. It's like time stops. I only notice that I should go eat when all of a sudden I don't have the strength to turn a wrench.

The only problem is I'm on a limited budget, and I don't get to fix all the things I want to.

Does anyone want to donate a good old benzo to someone like me?

I'll definately take good care of it.

Mr Bible: Thats true, but working on cars is up there in the top. Another high I had was going to California with my daughter and everyday I spend with my wife. But the reason I get a high from working on cars is what Industrial Pyscholgists call "FLOW". In certain people, we are happiest and prduce the most ++ brain chemicals when our minds and bodies are 110% challenged, its a high greater than anything..., also when job stress and annoying and nasty co workers P__ me off ita great stress outlet

Yes, I understand the brain chemicals during challenged times. I recently did an intense software project with a difficult customer and a hard deadline. I was working on it 13 or so hours a day, 7 days a week for a month or so.

Even though the stress was there, I was actually quite content while working through some challenging engineering problems.

Working in the shop is different for me. I personally benefit from my own work rather than building a system that I will never see again. I can't at all explain why I do it.

I always got more satisfaction from woodworking or machinist work.... but when engineering was not satisfying my car would get extra, uneeded attention.
I find that less nessary now that I'm happily married.
