Benz and occupants die on NJ Turnpike

Saw this on the front page of the Star Ledger today. As I looked closer, they have the dead mans head as well on the cover of the news paper. Wonder if they didn't see it? Looks like a '98+ E320 Wagon or sedan, can't really tell.

Ugghh...That could've been MY car.

It looks like a W210 '97 - '99 E320 or E300 diesel/turbodiesel.

The only way I can distinguish that car is by the wheels. Late model Benz.

That's sad to hear. Two people killed in a car. I know it happens all the time, but it is still saddening. Not just becasue it's a mercedes, but I'm sure they had family that have to look at that news paper article. That would be horrible if that were my parents or me. I always tell my mom that THE biggest reason we drive Mercedes' is becasue of the spectacular safety record. It's not that I think any car could have done better, not even my mom's old Volvo 240DL wagon. Which by the way, had the lowest fatality rate of any car ever imported to the U.S. upto '93. I remember reading that in a Volvo Safety article.
I bet even my w116 would have completely dissintegrated with that accident. I wonder if anyone could actually make a car that could have withstood that accident? I mean of course within reasonable measures and not saying that we should all drive dump trucks, although by the looks of that accident I want one.

What a mess! I drive that way on a regular basis. The construction lanes are always too skinny on the Turnpike. No room to maneuver if someone makes a mistake.
