Manual Diesel?

does anyone know if there were any W124 series diesel cars made with a manual transmission? I'm getting a bit bored with the auto 'box in my petrol 300E and fancy changing back to a manual car, plus I'd like to get a diesel again.

goodluck, if you find one in the US let me know too!
Question: I wonder if you are located in the UK or America? Its pretty challenging to drive a RHD over here, so I suggest you forget bringing one back from England. OTOH, there are lots of manual trans diesels in Germany.
Check eBay, use the advanced search feature, open the Items Located in... Worldwide box. Select Germany.

How about a 300TD Kombi diesel wagon w/ stick shift? I didn't know there was a 24 Valve diesel engine:

hmmm- that'd do nicely, the seat patern's a bit dodgy though!
I see it's done a few miles too Nice condition though.

I'm actually in the US for now, though originally from the UK.

I guess I'll have to wait 'till I can go back home to get one, and drool over ebay cars in the meantime...

drool over this one!
A 220 (not the OM603 engine that I have come to love!) but a red car with a stick shift. Clean interior!
I bet it gets great fuel economy!

I'd check out a copy of "Mercedes Enthusiast" magazine, which

is published in the UK but available at newsstands in some of the bigger bookstore chains (barnes and noble; borders) here in the US. An awful lot of very unusual variants and modifications, at least to US eyes, also an extensive classified.

Such an item imported into the US would not only have the obstacle of steering on the "wrong" side, but would have to meet US emissions and safety requirements. Suggest any excitement gained from stick-tranny driving would be MORE than cancelled out by the boredom of dealing with at least three different federal bureaucracies.

this is true. I thought about bringing my Peugeot 405 turbo diesel with me from the UK, but for the cost of shipping plus headache, and the wheel being on the right, it wasn't really worth it.

Although not quite up to the solidness of MB, the 405 was a great solid reliable car and I miss getting 50mpg!

Like I said, Germany is the place to find great cars that are simply unavailable here in America. All LHD.
No problem with diesels as far as smog, at least in Calif., but licensing and insurance could be a little tough but not anything one would be hard pressed to fulfill if you follow protocol.
OTOH the weak USD is a factor that makes it a lot more expensive now than if you imported one a year ago!
Its just those cloth covered seats that leave me a little hesitant!

Yeah, Euro benzes are amazing. So many more options, more models, cloth interiors, euro lights and bumpers and best, alot of manual transmissions.
