Headlight Stone Guards for w123?
 

Hi folks-

I've been searching here and all over for stone guards for an 84 300D.

Stongard.com has a set that they say fits w123 European headlights.

I just want to protect the head lights and fog lights, since I just replaced all of them as they were getting quite pitted.

Does anyone know exactly where I can order some of those headlight stone guards that are like thick adhesive plastic that fit the lens exactly?

i ordered a set from WWW.EUROCARPARTS.COM

for the early european lights...did not like how they looked at all - sold them on ebay.

I opted for the cut-em-yourself 20"x16" sheet for about $35 from GriotsGarage.com. The 10"x16" sheet would have been too small.

I will report back on how well this works.

Yeesh.. $10 for shipping and handling from 150 miles away? Not worth it for a $45 purchase!

Can anyone suggest a locally available material I could use? Like UV-resistant packing tape or something? I really just want to protect these $50/lens fog lights. The normal headlights are only about $20/piece.

From an insurance standpoint, $60 or so to protect a $140 investment is a little high.

Surely someone knows of some handy material used in some other field that would have good crossover potential...

So I ordered a set of two 5+3/4" headlight stone guards from BMP Design, a BMW supply catalog.
They were $19.95 for a set for sealed beam lights. I think shipping was under $10.

This is a much better deal than anything else I've seen out there. We'll see how they work out.

It occurred to me that you could use optically clear laminate cut to Euro head light size. made by 3M and maybe others

The windshield sandblasts more quickly than I like

I guess I should have explained that I don't have Euro headlights, which is why I didn' purchase the ones form stongard.com.

The ones I bought from BMP Design arrived. There are 4 plastic "bowls." They fit perfectly between the retaining ring and foglamp on my 84 300D. I don't like that they purposely bulge out about an inch from the lens. They seem to be made of really cheap plastic, and probably retail for $5 somewhere. They were $20 + $11 s&h from BMP design.

Oh well, now my $100 in fog lights will be protected. Since they sent me a set of 4 I have two spares, in case the two of them get cracked.
