Trunk Release

I have a 83 300D Turbodiesel.

Does anyone know how I can go about installing a trunk release lever/device inside the car.

It is a pain to have to go out and unlock the trunk or leave it unlocked all the time. My central locking system does not work well.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

db,

It might be easier to fix the vacuum lock system than to install a remote release. Usually the problem is a leak in one of the rubber connectors on the vacuum lines, the rubber gets old and cracks. Or one of the pneumatic cylinders might have a leak in the diaphram.

Go to a junk yard and look for a simular
sized car.
Remove the trunk unlock system.
I don't think you'll need to do much
modification to fit the cable to the
trunk lock, but you'll need to do some.
When you mount the handle next to your
seat, check for fuel lines under that area
before drilling holes.
Use permatex silicone to seal the holes
to counteract rust.

DONE.

I did this once when still living in Europe, but
I used a hood unlock instead, since back then
car makers just started to come out with trunk
releases.

I actually found a trunk release in my car. It's meant for emergencies, though (worked nicely when my truck wouldn't open). It's a cable that ends in a loop, and was under the cushion on the back seat.

Maybe, if your car has this, you could adapt it to do what you want...

Hope that helps some...good luck! :)
