OK to drive without any instrument cluster?
Ive had it. I cant get the steering coupling off, power steering hose back on, and I havent even tried getting the pitman arm off, or unbolting my steering box from my car. I give up, Its not worth it to me to do the work on my own, I get more stressed out than any feeling of accomplishment could ever fix.
I need to drive my car 5 miles to my MB indy. The problem is that my gauge cluster is 2500 miles away. I think Ill be OK with the oil pressure line; Im just going to plug it. But is it OK to drive with the speedometer cable unattached, and all the inputs to the gauge cluster not attached either? Thanks, JMH

I guess you can. It's only five miles. But if you want to be on the safe side, you can spring a few bucks and get a tow truck to tow your car to the indy I guess.

I don't see any harm in driving w/o the instrument cluster as they don't control your engine in any way, all they do is indicate your engine's vitals. You won't know how fast you're going though. Make sure you plug your oil line well otherwise you will have oil squirting all over you. There is about 45 PSI of pressure there at cruising speed.

Yeah, I was more worried about the electronic components which send signals and dont have any termination.
I drove it once (with oil line plugged), and it was fine. Problem was I had cut my PS belt (couldnt get the hoses back on the pump), so it was really tough to steer. So another question: Does it damage the steering components to steer with no power assist and minimal fluid in the gearbox? Im not talking about on the roads, I mean turning around, etc into and out of a garage and in a parking lot. The thing is, there is much more turning (side to side) in a lot then on the roads... Thanks, JMH

I don't think it would hurt the steering box to drive it that way but you may end up with arms like Popeye after driving it that way. I had thrown a PS belt on a car I once had and I had to drive it 30 miles to get it home. The PS worked fine after I put it back on but my arms were a bit sore for a few hours afterward.
