Angry Replacement Dash Boards No longer Available at Dealer

I just got an email from one of the parts guys at Caliber. Just for giggles, I asked if black dash boards were still available for 123's. (if you were in the process of cherry'ing out your 123).

Answer: These might become available someday in the future, but don't count on it. I checked this situation with the Classic Center and the original tooling broke. Costs too much to replace as it wouldn't make the dash cost effective to replace. :-(

So does this suddenly up the value of a car with a perfect dash?

New isn't necessarily the only option. There are a number of companies that can restore your dashboard to like new condition. Pop over to your favorite search engine and type in "dashboard restoration."

care for d-board

What do ya'll reccomend for caring for the dash?

Mine has no cracks and I would like to keep it that way. Long ago I use to use "Son of a Gun" but that sucked.. it collected dust just like oiling and air filter.

For the dash, and all vinyl/plastic items, the item most strongly recommended is Formula 303 Protectant:

http://www.303products.com/

I use this for my cars and also my spa cover. Great stuff, minimal residue, etc. Read some of the testimonials on their site.

I found that when I left my greasy hamburger wrappers on the dashes of my various cars I had in the past those dashes never cracked.

There was a PERFECT W123 dash at the ecology autowrecking. But when I went back today, someone had ripped out the piece of wood that held the sunroof control and other buttons and it warped the edge of the dash too.. wasted. How do I go about removing it out anyways?

They had a W123 at Ecology? I haven't been to any of their yards in many years. I think they had two yards back then, one in Montebello and another in Santa Fe Springs. I used to go the SFS yard most often because it was closest to where I had used to live.
I used to see all kinds of good parts ruined at their yards because someone didn't know, or care, how to properly remove the part.
I've never removed the trim part but I think that you have to pop the switches out first.

Hey lietuviai, where do you live now? I've lived on both sides of the 60 freeway, and ecology was only 5 mins away (montebello location) but ever since they closed, I go to the one in Santa Fe Springs since its on the way home from school. You'd be suprised by what they have. There's almost aways a W126, W123s are at least 2 at a time, W201s are fairly common too, W114/5's, and for the first time ever a W124 300D (my dad wanted to buy that car but the guy lied to him, saying it was shipped to san diego). I'll just wait until there's another W123 with a good dash.

Billg, those aren't actual dash boards. Instead they are a "dash cap" that you mount directly on top of your current dash board. Its held in place with adhesive and basically just conseals the cracks. They're on ebay quite often too.
