Adjusting 300D Hood: Suggestions?

Dear Diesel Demons:

As some of you may have read here, I'm still bringing my '83 300D back from the dead. One thing that's REALLY buggin' me is how the hood is sitting: it's riding high on the driver's side by maybe a 1/4".

I know about the levelers at the front corners but is there any way to adjust hood level at the REAR, in the aread of the hinges/supports?

Thanks in advance,

Diesel Fitter

On the W124, I know there's a adjuster behind the fender, perhaps there's one for the W123 also? Can someone please confirm this with me? Thanks.

I'm no expert on this, but there are two obvious bolts connecting the hood to the hinge mechanism that can be adjusted, and then there is the chance that the hinge was bent.

Hood adjustment

I think the bolts would allow for fore/aft adjustment in the horizontal plane but what I'm seeking is vertical adjustment. I seem to remember the spring that allows the hood to stay up but itself has three "notches" to which it can be hooked on the hood support. Maybe this is the adjustment I seek?

Anybody?

I just went out there and switched the springs to upper and lower notches.... all that does is change the tension of the spring and the amount of support they offer to the hood in terms of staying open. No solution there...

I did find this bit of information on the internet about adjusting rear hood hieight---but it relates to Chevrolet, and it seems that the hood bolts are vertical rather than horzontal...so I don't think the tips apply to our Mercedes.

I've been staring at those hinges for some time, but I still don't see any way to adjust the rear height of the hood. I have a feeling that the solution is too obvious!

I'm still looking for information...

Has anyone found solution to this problem- rear hood adjustment?

I changed out the fuel lines on my 84 300td and shut the hood. For some reason my hood is 1/2 inches too high on the rear drivers corner. Any ideas on what slipped, bent, needs adjusting, or??

Thanks for the help!

Craig

The only way I found is to put a block of wood near the hinge in question and slowly close the hood. It will bend the hinge upwards. At the same token be careful, because you could ruin the hinge using this method.

I would also like to know

I have a similar problem on my 240D. Not as severe but the symptom is the same. I've also contemplated it for some time but found no obvious solution. My car does have accident damage though so don't know if that is a factor.
