Do you have oil leaks?

Pretty simple question ... is oil leaking out of your motor (burning oil doesn't apply)?

I am just wondering because I bought my diesel with three oil leaks. After leaving it parked after over night after driving it, I get three small oil puddles on the cement. All the spots are around 2" in diameter. The leaks are coming from the oil filter housing gasket, the front of the IP to block connection, and an oil hose at the turbo.

I hate polluting the enviorment so I will be fixing or have them fixed shortly.

I am just wondering if you guys have little leaks on your motor? When you fix them, do they resurface?

Cassidy

Have you confirmed that the oil leak from the hose at the turbo is actually that?

I ask 'cause the oil drain for the oil separator in the air cleaner housing is right around there, and if even one of the mounts for the air cleaner housing is broken, it's a fair bet that the nipple in the air cleaner housing disengaged itself from the metal oil return line, and that may be the source of your leak.

I've got this problem; if it weren't for that, my car would be leak-free.

Just something to check...good luck!

I just have the usual turbo oil return pipe leak. It's actually gotten better since I got the car(go figure). Just leaves a small spot(maybe an inch in dia at most) after sitting a day or 2 on the cement floor of my garage.

Too many damn oil leaks to count. I hate having them becasue I have many friends that live in nice neighborhoods, and whenever I leave they always tell me I have an oil leak, embarrasing.

A few, when I start driving the car next week we'll see how many I really have. I'll fix the major/simple ones, than just live with the rest.

yep - the daily driver. I dropped an engine/tranny in it at around 234k miles (the engine/tranny came out of a car with 144k miles). It looks like there is some leakage at the front main seal, the IP and the oil filter housing. I will NEVER have an engine on an engine stand without replacing the gaskets/seals that would resolve these leaks. Doesn't leak much but there are some leaks. In addition to the '85 300D leaks the '81 has some leaks too. Not sure where all they are at but it goes through a quart of oil within about 1000 miles. My plans are to go through the engine in it this summer. The SD does not leak.

The usual turbo oil return pipe leak.

I loose 0.5 quart every 3000 miles.
It is on my repair list, when work slows down.

Not a drop from the '72 or the '95.
Of course I only drive the '72 about 1,000 a year, so that helps.

Diesel not leaking, your kidding right?

When looking under my SDL last week with my Mechanic, we noticed the lower "shroud" was coming loose. Originally these cars had large contoured panels under the engine and transmissions. The mechanic was joking (not sure he was) that Mercedes actually put these in to "hold" all the oil drips from the diesels so that customers of new ones would not come running back to get every little drip fixed under warranty.

Diesels seep and leak oil. Ever seen a 80's Detroit Diesel in a boat? Mercedes drips are nothing.

Yes, I have the usual suspects.... Turbo drain pipe seals and air filter housing (blow-by), are the worst. Oil cooler lines are "weeping" but not leaking. Am loosing around 1 quart every 500 miles, but engine runs well. Have 200K+ miles on her and is my daily driver. I am going to try the turbo seals replacement soon.

Not a single leak on my W210 that has had synthetic since new. Don't ask about the 240D.

My 300D needs a new oil pan gasket, but it doesn"t really mark the driveway.
My 240D front main seal leaks a bit, but it doesn't reach the driveway.
My old 115 240D didn't leak a drop, although the bottom side of the engine was pretty grimey.
My Isuzu diesel pickup piddles enough that I don't park it in the driveway without putting out cardboard.
Synthetic oil didn't cause any new leaks on the MB's, but the Zuzu didn't take to it very well at all.

all the dirt on my extremely filthy engine must catch all the drips before they hit the ground and thus make the engine even dirtier :p

My 82 300D leaves a few drops on the ground overnight after driving. One of the leaks was coming from the turbo return pipe, but I believe that one is fixed. However I can't find the other sources. My 240D is a bit wet at the bottom but it doesn't drip. My 87 300D has no oil leaks but it drips power steering fluid.
