Talking better still...

Get one of those detachable models and let him take it away...

...after you wire it to a mini-version of one of those paint bombs that the banks use when they hand over a bag of money to a robber. He walks off with it, admiring his catch, then Kaboom! He should be easy to find after that.

Wire the removable to an alarm that yells and cusses like you just ripped someones ear off. They die laughing right there in front of you car.

Back in HS the Electronics shop teacher used to charge large capacitors and leave them on his desk, usually next to items kids would be sure to want to pick up. He zapped a few that way. I remember reading way back about a way to use an old model A Ford ignition coil to produce a nasty shock in an application like this. Sure would be funny to watch. RT
