Questions on 240D

Saw a 83 240D on a small rural lot only 73K HIt the brakes, backed up, pulled in the lot, had the guy slap a plate on it and started it up. It was 38 degrees, it started right up, no smoke, and sounded real good. drove well, no sunroof, no auto windows, etc. It has the 4 cyl non-turbo engine. Is this correct?

CARFAX said it has a 5 cyl turbo. Now My 84 300td has the 5 cyl turbo I am thinking carfax will soon be refunding my money.

The 240D is a interesting vehicle to say the least. I have to get up to redline to really shift well. Nice car tho... only a mb person would love its' sssllllloooooowwww acceleration. I can live with that.

Now, if I can convince my wife that there is still space for yet
ANOTHER MB, It will have a new home next week.....

Yes, a 240d should be a 4cyl non-turbo. It sounds like one since it does not have the accessories of the 300d. However, if the VIN comes up 5 cyl turbo, perhaps it is a Euro model 300d with a trunk that was replaced with one with the 240d emblem as a result of an accident. Or maybe someone wanted to turn a 300d into a 'sleeper' by putting the 240d emblem on it.

Hello Kerry-- i took the VIN off the data Plate.
It says, "...meets all applicable federal safety
standards at time of manufacturer..." and the speedo has the american highlighted "55" due to the speed limit restrictions at the time, ah the good old days, right????

there is some rust on the rear fenders and insdied the trunk.

I'm going to make the guy an offer as soon as he gets back from his regular job of over the road
cattle hauler... Probably next week. If he won't take it, I'll let you know. It's a Penna car, down south, lots of road salt I sorry to say.
