Unhappy Anyone need an SDL motor?

There is an SDL here, 86 model. Was driven into the salvage yard. No title, and it's a bit beat up, but could be salvagable. It starts good cold, runs ok, seems to puff some light oil smelling smoke when you rap the throttle. I've not driven it, but it was driven there.

This is the car I got my vacuum pump from. Surprisingly most everythig still worked on it, it's just, kinda beat up. I've tried to talk a couple local Mercedes guys into buying it, but they passed, not into the 6 cyl diesel.

If I was going to be staying here long enough I'd buy it and put her back together, but I'm not. Is that motor worth anything being that it runs OK, smokeing or not? I am tempted to buy it and sell a few parts, make a couple bucks. Otherwise it's going to end up as a small crushed square I imagine.

Thoughts?

I would say you could pull some things off it and make a few bucks.

Depending on how much time/labor you wanted to put in, you could get the injection pump, the head (do some research here on the head part numbers, the newer versions would be more valuable) the starter, the alternator, the turbo.

Thanks Ken, I'll look into those parts and see.

I'm not looking to get rich or anything, just short on time in general, to make it worth it at all I need some sort of monitary motivation..

If the heads in good shape its worth a few bucks. See if you can pull the engine and store it somewhere. Strip the parts as you sell them.

Seats are grey(real descriptive, eh?), with full power and the lumbar air bladers. All the power stuff worked, even the headrest and lower back ballons. I don't remember them being extremly nice, but not "oh god" bad either.

A guy e-mailed me about the head just now, depending on what revesion it turns out to be. Were you looking meaning short block as in sans head? It's showing 360K on the odometer, but starting up cold as well as it did, the compression can't be *that* bad.

As for price, what's it worth to you?

I have checked PM's and e-mail, if I have not gotten back to you I will.

As soon as it's not rainy and crudy I'll get out to the yard and take a few photos and find out exactly I can get the car for.

status on the seats?

Wolf_Walker,

I know I'm probably 57th in line asking about the seats... My back has gone crappy lately and I'm looking for something better to fit my SDL.

Do the adjustments in the car still work? I'd love to find out what the orthopedic seats feel like. It would be worth a ride over just to sit in it and compare. My current seats need recovering anyway.. so it is a good time to switch.

Let me know if the other deals fall through or if you do not decide to take the car. I'm in NC and can come pick up the seats with pretty short notice. There are also a few other parts I'd be interested in at the right price. Send a note or post a reply to let me know.

Chuck

Weather was crudy again in my free part of the day here, hopeing again for tomomrrow.

Chuck, the ortho seats, and the power functions, did still work, untill I robbed the vacuum pump the other week. But they did work fine amazingly enough.

I should know more tomorrow about the whole deal, I was not expecting this much interist really.
