1987 300D Power Steering Leak ?

Hello,

My 1987 300D seems to have developed a "rather sudden" power steering leak. My fiance was turning a corner and told me that she heard some growling sounds. I looked at the car and noticed that the power steering fluid reservoir was completely dry and the car has quite a bit of fluid sitting just below the steering box. I recently had my indy replace the power steering hoses and all has been well. I haven't put the car in the air yet and wondered if anyone has any clue here? Has anyone seen anything like this and can these boxes be resealed? I did some searching and haven't found anything real definitive regarding my specific problem. Any thoughts here?

Thanks in advance.
