oil pressure increase after starting the engine

After I start the engine, the oil pressure increases to 3. But there is a little time gap. The needle stays at 0 for a moment and then increases.
Is this normal?

Kinda depends on a couple things. How long is a "moment"? If it's just a second or so, I'd say it's normal. Also, if it's a longer moment after the car has sat a while (like over night), it's ok too. But if your talking about 5 seconds, that's not too good.

agree with rickg - how many miles on your car?
on mine it takes a couple seconds for the oil to get to the gauge then it pins to the 3 mark.

I have been told that the O rings on the spindle that holds the oil filter can wear out and not hold the oil where it is supposed to be overnight, which I suppore would cause a delay in getting the oil pressure up.
They are easy to get to and cheap to replace.

i have noticed a better performance from the gauge as well since i replaced the o-rings during my last oil change. it does not go down so low as before at hot idle.
i presume all the oil in the canister was leaking down when the engine was turned off due to worn out o-rings.
i also noticed the spindle itself was clogged . i blew out the crud with compressed air.

Thanks. Mine reaches 3 after about 2~3 seconds. 20W-50 synthetic (first synthetic from petroleum). 231000 miles.

By the way, there is wet looking oil on the right side of the engine (when viewd from front to rear. in other words, driver side). Not right side of cylinder head, but right side of something attached on the right side of the cylinder block.
