123 rear window seal
I"m replacing the rear glass seal on my 81 240D. I can't get the chrome trim into its channel in the window gasket. Can anyone out there tell me if the chrome trim can be put in rubber gasket after the glass/gasket assembly has been installed in the car or should it get put in while the whole thing is still on the table? Thanks in advance.

do a search....might help.
on mine we put the trim in the rubber first because the rubber gasket acts as a clamp to hold in the trim...if you are having trouble now i can not imagine it going at all once the seal is drawn up tight... look into it, i could be totally off Jake |

I just had this done to my car for $60 by some pros. They pulled the old window OUT with the trim in place. They removed the gasket from the old window and then removed the trim.
They installed the new gasket onto the old window, installed the OLD trim into the gasket AND then installed the assembled unit into the car. This way the trim is not bent in the removal or installation process. (they knew what they were doing. I got their name from the Porsche body shop across the street from my office.) Prices quoted ranged from $60 to $100 for this job. I selected the $60 guys because I knew if they were good enough for the Porsche shop, they were good enough for me.

The FSM says to install the gasket on the glass, then put the trim on the gasket, then install the assembly in the window opening.
Good luck!
