OK, I know this is crazy but

..... say for instance somebody wanted to cut the roof off of their 123. And then dress it to look like a faux convertible. Can it be done? Will the frame have to strengthen? I’m toying with the idea. Any thoughts or suggestions out there?

Someone whos been here a while may remember this. Didnt someone snap a pic of a 123 ( I think it was a CD) that was shredded up and converted to soft top? Is that pic still around anywhere?

I aggree, why? For the money it would cost to do it, just get an old beat up SL.

Awww, why not? He started out his post by saying the he knows it's a crazy idea. He already realizes this would be an unpopular idea around here, so these comments are unnecessary. If a guy has the money and wants to do something like this, let him do it. I agree with the first poster that it comes down to money. I'm sure it's possible, but there's no way it's cheap to do.

Just my opinion, but you asked for it-

4 door ragtops are out of the question. Look for pix on the net of a 1949 Frazier ragtop and you'll see why. , so that means you would have to hack on a Coupe body, of which Mercedes only made about 2500 per year.

A travesty indeed. Especially if you got a convertible frame from a BMW 3 series and somehow made it fit---

Why not make an El Camino out of a wagon instead?

Who said any thing about spending lot'sa money? I never intended to put a true convertible top on Liesel, only a false roof-boot. I got some smart emails saying the car would most likely bow in the middle without the roof structure to support the frame. So, the idea is abandoned.

Like I said; It was a crazy idea, but I can dream. Right?? That’s the fun!

Great pic Joe P. Those 1961-69 Lincoln (PresidentKennedy) convertibles are awesome huh? I'd buy myself one of those classics before i ripped up a classic Mercedes.

I stole it off a classic site. They are cool but I'd want white on white. Totally pimpin' A buddy of mine 's Dad had one. Very cool but no one knew what the hell is was other than JFK's car. The backwards hoods (al la SAAB) are odd as well. The whole pacakge is neat, in the same way a 2CV is cool. Just different.

Am I the only one to think that the 123 convertible in the picture is one cool *****in ride??? I'm not saying that I'd do it myself, but just look at the smiles on those guys faces, they're having a blast
