Well, Sun Valley is a nice place, but way out of central or northern CA. I travelled down there to get a differential once, its only about a 6 hour drive each way (at 80 MPH on I5) from the San Francisco area, making a motel awfully desireable along the way. Foreigners don't realize that there is Southern CA and there is Northern CA, and they are both big places!
In San Jose there are several places, In case you didn't already know Pick N Pull on Commercial St. and Monterey Blvd (408 293-3613 and 408-452-1275) there is American Import on Leo St (see Amir) tel 408-275-9261 then there is the East Bay,
Pick Ur Part Milpitas tel 408-262-4500, European Wrecking in Newark 408-795-8910. And others (which I do not use)
I also recommend calling Acme in Santa Rosa if you want to go that far and they have something you can't find closer, tel 707-546-6816 or 415-457-6338, ask for Larry.

DDH.

Yes,I do know about that but sometimes
if you need a certain part that you can't find
anywhere else and this place most likely will have
it.
Hey,you guys down there have it easy.
The nearest ones that are half way decend
are in PA and those aren't MB specific but
general junkjards.
Granted they are big but not really near
my house.
Here in NJ most of them are closing because
local communities are against them and so are
the tree huggers because of the impact on the
enviroment.
So count your blessings that you have so many
and you don't have to travel far everytime you
need a hard to find part.

Good luck.

Louis.

New Jersey junkyards

Louis:
Is Michaels in East Brunswick still there or has that been turned into a housing development too? The last time I was there was in 1989 and it was the best european junkyard I've ever been in. They even had the shell of a 300SL convertible that looked like it had been there for 20 years at the time... I still can see that # side vent shining through the weeds........

any big mbz junkyard is a help

Any big MBZ yard is a big help I am trying to get a transmission for a 1985 300d non turbo euro import so far as I can tell it was only used on 1985 CA model 300d turbo and 1985 CA model 300sd turbo and there were three different versions used and only one will work. I had not found some of the San Jose ones you pointed out Ill try those. I know there’s a big one in Oakland but I can’t find it. The transmission is a 123 model 722 405 02 with mechanical speedometer and kick down switch with the 6 bolt pan. I have a guy at a German auto in San Jose that has a 123 722 401 02 he says will work I am waiting for a guy in LA that rebuilds transmissions and is real knowledgeable to see what he says. By the way he mentioned he had a euro 5 speed for sale even said if you provide a 240d 4 speed and a 190d 5 speed he will make you a 300d turbo 5 speed. If I have to drive 6 hours to get it so be it is a beautiful car.
Thanks a lot for any and all help I will call all recommended yards

Benzcrusher.

Don't come to NB to much, but wouldn't be
surprised that it is closed or closing.

Here in Bergen/Passaic county those that where
here are closed or closing and the one that is left
usually has no MB's.
Has one w124 coupe with nice rims for the moment.
Like the one in the picture but coupe instead of
sedan.
Same color combination too.

Silver star is the one I think you are looking for ...

Silver Star in Oakland went out of the parts biz about 4 years ago which was reallt too bad, they were very friendly and helpful, I loved to go there just to see what they got in, now they are strictly in the repair biz. I heard they were sending tons of MB wrecks to China. The owner informed me that local environmental ordnances got too strict.
Did no one mention the Rancho Cordova outfit?

A-German in SJ is my least popular place (that's why I didn't list it) but they might just have what you need. You got a real problem with a grey market tranny there.
Did you ask Wolfgang at Peter Schmid Transmission in Burlingame about compatibility? They are MB tranny experts and Wolfgang is usually willing to help even if its just free advise (ask in the right way) 1-800-372-8726.

That ought to bring Ridge out of the woodwork.... Ben?
