importing a grey market diesel
anyone have a clue how.. considering the vw lupo.. im in PA which doesnt have the restrictions of CA and ny / maine

It would have to be brought up to DOT and EPA standards by a certified importer, which may not even be possible as items like DOT lights, for example, don't exist for a Lupo.
There's been lots of discussion about this over on TDIclub over the years, if you wan't some reading do a search on http://forums.tdiclub.com. There's a guy over there putting a euro-spec V6 TDI engine in a B5 Passat which is about as close as you can reasonably get to having a non-us TDI over here.

What about the E400 CDI? or a G class (not new), since they both both body styles are for sale in the US.

I have a Euro import
Read my posts on trying to get a transmission for a gray market import you might reconsider. But if you do it some times to bring it up to DOT standards can involve significant structural modifications. Some years and maybe regions they are stricter on DOT regs than others. Good luck and I love my Euro even though parts service can be a pain.
