1992 300D Transmission HELP!

First time post here, and have done some searching...

I drove my 92' 300D down to my folks this weekend... was a great trip... however it started acting up when we arrived.

The transmission wasn't catching and was reeving through the gears when we got into town. It seemed to settle down a bit and later I took it out to run it out and see if it was slipping in other gears.

Everything was fine (slipped a little in 3rd and 4th) and then I stopped in a parking lot. Now it won't move. Engine sounds fine, but the wheels just shake... I am really at a lose other then I am sure the tranny isn't feeling so good... goes in reverse just fine... although not exactly how I want to drive 110 miles home LOL

Thanks for any thoughts,

Rob

Have you checked the fluid? Good level? Smell funny? Look funny?

Vacuum hose come off somewhere? Possibly under the car if your sound panels are not installed?

Same thing happened to mine a few months ago at 230K. Was heading to my mechanic to fix a slipping tranny when I ended up stranded in an intersection. I could rev the engine in D -- and no go.

Turned out I had a broken brake band in my tranny. The fix: a $1,500 rebuild.

Good luck.
