Hey Larry,

Is that the place where the staff comes around and cuts your tie off if you dare to wear one in there? I have not been down to downtown Dallas in many years but I remember a place that was near Love field like that one.

Brian,

No, that's Trail Dust Steakhouse. Ties are allowed for lunch and they bring complimentary peanuts in the shell to the table. The rule is that you throw the peanut hulls in the floor. Then at five PM they sweep out the hulls and cut off any ties that are worn.

I have seen tour buses unload at dinner time with people in T-Shirts and old ties. There are ties tacked on the wall all over the place.

I would say that they are going to great lengths to create a laid back atmosphere. Their steaks are pretty tough to beat too.

Have a great day,

Larry,

Me and the wife will attend! See you there.... even if I prefer Dickey's! How about a sandwich at Angelo's in Ft Worth, with onion, yellow mustard, pickles and bbq sauce!
It was the only 5 star rating in the "texas bbq" guide.

Michael

It looks like we will have record attendance. Keep those replies coming and watch for the headcount thread about a week before the event.

About a week before I will ask for confirmations and give the exact address. We will have so many that I will need to call and reserve a table.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and getting help to offer Paul a little Texas Hospitality.

Have a great weekend,

Thumbs up

larry, thanks for posting the thread.

every time i ask someone: hey, whats that BBQ joint down near the TSBD, i never get the right answer, and they usually cant come up with the name.

i had a project in dallas, and made it a point to slack off early one afternoon to see the area. went to dealy (very CREEPY to me), took some B&W photos for even creepier effect, and later drove over to parkland, and even walked into the emer room, and was suprised to see just how close to exactly like Nov 63 it still was.

then: upon a co-workers advice, went back to west end for BBQ.

now larry, im from the SE, where bbq means PORK ,
and have NEVER really like beef bbq. my buddy said "get the beef", i said no, i'll just have pork, he said "get the BEEF", i said i dont think so, he said "listen to me, GET THE BEEF!" boy, was he ever right! as you might guess, im still a hog man, BUT whenever in TX, i go out of my way for some beef bbq.

sadly, i wont be in the area, but will be wishin i was!

have fun guys!

No kidding, this will surely set a record.

It will be good to see all the faces behind the posts.

Two years ago it was mainly a W123 diesel crowd.

My last visit was a W124 group.

I wonder what the make up of cars will be this time.

Oh......and I hope everyone drives their Mercedes to the restaurant. One guy last time drove his wife's Volvo wagon. It was a clean car, but where is the humanity?

Paul,

Yes, I think the cars will run the gamut this time. I'll be in my 203 car this go around.

Look forward to seeing you then.

ThrillBilly,

Yes, in Texas Barbeque does not mean any particular meat. I guess it relates more to the wood under it and the sauce over it. This, of course, is a beef state, so there's rarely a shortage of it.

I do enjoy Pork BBQ when I go to the Carolinas.

Have a great day,

Well, I'll be the oddball this time around. I don't have a running MB to drive there at current, so it'll be the Prius.

I sure remember Red Bryan's Bar-B-Que on Jefferson Blvd. in Oak Cliff. I believe he was Sonny's father. It was only a mere 45 years ago. They had a huge stuffed moose head on the wall with a tooth pick in his mouth.

Great! Looking forward to meeting you RockinWagin.

Watch for a new thread leading up to that date with more precise information and to confirm the head count for reservations.

Have a great day,

When I was a kid 30 years ago, we ate at a place in Tucson that cut your tie off. All kninds of ties on the walls. I think the place was "Sneaky Pete's".

June 04th Dallas, Tx at Sonny Bryans

Larry,

I plan on attending this function. Already booked the hotel room.
What a great opportunity to meet contributors to this forum.
Wanted to confirm the location of the Sonny Bryan Smokehouse. Found their website and the West End location you described has the following address: 302 N Market St Dallas, TX.
Just wanted to confirm this with you.

Thank-you.

I am 99% sure that N. Market is the correct address. I will 100% confirm this in the upcoming confirmation thread.

Okay, those of you from the Golden State have a chance to win the long distance driving award. It currently looks like it will go to archibald2. You could also take back some carry out to your friends.

Mike Tangas used to drive from the San Diego area in a matter of a few hours. Of course he was in a marked Border Patrol car. The last time he came through, he was in his unmarked big bodied V8 MB and I think he still did it in a very few number of hours. Just joking!

We look forward to such a great turn out. I will try to promote some more long distance attendees.

Have a great day,
