Question Adjusted valves, little smoke now?

I think I've read mention of this before but I can't find hide nor hair of it searching to save me, so..

Adjusted valves, they were slightly overdue, all tight, now better, will probibly check them again in the reasonably near future just in case.

But.(there's always a but)

My previously completly non-smokey 256K mile 300D now will hapily put out a smallish amount of regular old black diesel smoke on acceleration suddenly. Previously there was non at all visable from the drivers seat in the daytime, and a small amount visable in headlights behind at night. Power is slightly better, especialy low end, runs smoother, etc, etc, just this new smoke.

Unless you guys have other experience, I have a theory. I bumped up the ALDA awhile ago, better low end, still no smoke, wunnerful thing. Now with the valves adjusted and ever *better* low end, should I simply back the ALDA off to reduce smoke? Seems logical, in a backyard kinda way. I supose I could also wait a few hundred miles and see what happens? I don't mind pulling the ALDA back a bit, it has such good light throttle response around town that I really need to adjust the trans AGAIN to compensate for the fact that my foot is so lightly on the throttle now. It's amazing how the power output of this motor keeps getting better and better, and it's still at 9psi of boost and the injectors have never been out of the head at just over a quarter million miles. Gotta love a diesel..

For the record, I bet I go buy or make some $%^&^$ wrenches before I do those valves again, sheesh. There's a lot to be said for hyd lifter setups..
