Door molding fell off
Actually it came off when i leaned against the front door molding. It's the moulding that goes all around the car. On the door it's held in with about 6 or 7 red bullet shaped plastic clips (no screws). I have a new pack of these clips (P/N 0009881581) from my 450SL restore and thought they were used on all MBs. They don't hold the molding in on the 300D so the trim fell out again. The clips hold prety well in the door but the molding doesn't hold onto the clip well. Any suggestions?
This site says this clip (0009881581) is for all MBs: http://germanparts.com/AllParts/AllPartNumbers_19.html

Those red bullet shaped plastic inserts are the right part. You may have to reinstall them a couple of times to get them to sit in there right. Make sure the pin on the molding is lines up correctly. The plastic parts get misshapen quickly if you get the molding pins off a little and try to push them in there. Also those moldings get a curve along the length that seems to make the pins miss the inserts, watch for that. May have to slide the pins around.
