Hey, fellas!

I picked up a decent little 1980 300TD.

It's not the prettiest car in the world....Silver paint is very oxidized, especially on the hood, roof, and hatch. And there's a couple of minor dents on the driver's side.

The dark blue interior is actually pretty good.

It runs GREAT! It's a non-turbo, but it pulls very strong, even in 1st gear from a standing start. Starts up just as good as my 300SD...Starts BETTER than our 300D!

A friend of mine owed me a couple of favors, so he sold it to me for $500!

The servo is missing, so obviously the climate controls are non-functional.....

BUT.....

It has the 3rd seat, and I'm going to take it out and give it back to my friend in exchange for a working manual climate control setup from a 240D parts car. He needs the 3rd seat for another wagon, and I want the manual AC/heat system that works!

I love the barter system!

I originally bought it just as a "beater"....something to move my drums around with, take the dogs to the park, Home Depot runs, etc....but I'm thinking of actually dressing it up a bit. I can't find any significant rust on the car, and since it runs so good I'm thinking about painting it sometime soon. With some fresh paint and a dash cover, it would be a great looking TD.

Well, here's some pictures I took in the lot behind our loft building....It's where I sometimes work on the cars, and after I put some new fuel hoses, tailgate lift shocks, and filters on it today I figured I'd snap a couple of pix for you guys.

Nice car for $500!

It's probably cheaper and easier to get a new servo and amplifier from Performance Analysis (about $500 or $600, I think than to mess around with changing the climate control system -- that will require removing the dash on both cars, and lots of headaches.

Suit yourself, though!

Very nice looking wagon. Can't go wrong for $500 either.

Love the dogs. I've got a little weenie dog, and she's a wonderful pet.

Dah! I've been scouring all of georgia for that car, and you found it! well, it looks like a winner- congrats on the find!

Way to go, MM! I've been thinking of ditching the Explorer for a TD....maybe the Bassets can tell me if a Great Dane can stretch out in the back...:p

Nope, because the manual system I'm going to use is FREE!

It doesn't get much cheaper than that!

It was part of the deal when I bought the car. My friend that I bought it from is going to help me change it over. The pre-servo systems from the 123-chassis 240D fit right in, and it is far more reliable. It's not going to take that much time, either....The 240D is already partially disassembled, and I've watched my buddy pull the entire dash out of a 123 in less than 12 minutes! Without breaking anything, too!

He's done this conversion 3 or 4 times already.

Actually, he does have a nice one right now....It's the same colors as my SD, and the paint is much better than my wagon, etc...I think he's working on fixing the air conditioning at present, and it needs the hood painted, then as far as I know it will be ready to detail and sell.

I wish you would take a VHS video of that... even 30 minutes would be good instructions....
