does this sound like my fan clutch is bad? (190D 2.2)

My borther's 190D 2.2 is squealing. At first we thought it may be the water pump but it isn't. It's coming from that fan clutch (I think). What part do I want to order that would fix a squeal. If you spray just a little WD-40 where the clutch is, it shuts up for awhile. SO, does that mean that i only need to buy a fan clutch or is there another part that would be bad on that pulley?
Does this job require any sort oef puller to get it off?
Thanks
David

Does the fan just bolt straight up to the clutch? With the car off, I can move the fan freely, but it's at the point where the fan meets up the squeals and I can't tell if it's a part of the fan or the clutch doing it. If I spray the little crack that I see between them, that is when it quiets down.
Thanks
David

most often the squeal comes from the tensioner. The tensionser frame begins to bend due to the offset load on the tensioner pulley. The end result is that the pulley is not perfectly aligned with the rest of the pulleys of the ac, water pump, ps pump, crank, etc. You then get squealing. Your wd-40 on the fan area coats the outside of the belt, which cures the squeaking for a while at the pulley.

I have seen this on three different 60x engines. On the plus side, it is an easy repair to replace the tensioner frame.

Fastlane doesn't have this part listed. Do you know the "official" name of the part?
Thanks

accessory belt tensioner.

If its cocked at an angle, in towards the timing cover on the left side looking down, it should be replaced. Use blue loc-tite on the bolt when reinstalling. If the pulley bearing is worn, the pulley should be replaced as well.

Regards,
