I put up a thread about one of these diesels a few weeks back and by some of the replies I got, these were supposed to be pretty good cars. I guess you would have to join a forum kind of like ours dedicated to those cars for support.

You know what, you guys are great. This is a great forum.
I was not thinking of buying that car, I have my hands tied financially with this one Mercedes. It is a labor of love.
I was toying with the idea of checking this one out, though only if it was a diesel.
Talk about no resale value!

That you can't find parts for them in the US doesn't mean they are junk.

the fact they have sheet metal like a soda can, and the fact that few french cars live long enough to see 100,000 miles is enough of a reason.

I've read that the diesels last quite a long time but the sheetmetal leaves much to be desired. They're just like the Japanese cars in that respect.
There's a rumor that Peugeot make be making a comeback to the US in a couple of years.

I've allways really liked Peugots for some reason, something about the aesthetics. I'd love to have an Mi16, but its too bad they pulled out of the US and I can't afford a "toy" or hobby car.

I beg to differ... if you would travel overseas to areas that don't experience road salt... with Arizona type climates.. you would be in for a shock. I have been in many Peugeots and seriously think the older ones are well built. I have been in an old wagon that had "999,999"km on it... but the cluster quit working.

It also seems that you're mixing politics with cars.... and you know those 2 don't relate in determing a good car to a bad one.

At any rate, in my opinion, I think the 505's are HOT.

I mean, how many french cars do you see on the road?
-Mmm, maybe 2 for every 300 cars on the road- rarity factor.

How many cars out there look the same?
-Just aboout every car made since 1980, unless its a BMW, Merc, Volvo, Audi, Saab, OR PEUGEOT!! I think theyre rather distinctive looking, and in 505S Turbo spec, with the 15" alloys, front and rear spoiler, and a shiny black coat of paint, is absolutely irresistable! (my father had one just like this)

If a 20 year old Peugeot is still on the road in the US-
- It has to be owned by someone who is into their car as much as we are. Which I think is highly respectable.

And most importantly, before you knock on Peugeot, it is the world second oldest automobile manufacturer, next to the trusty 3 pointed star- years of racing heritage and production of private vehicles, and to this day is one of the more popular brands in europe, and still going strong.

Sure it may be hard to get parts for in the US. And seeing as how many people look down on Pugs here its no wonder why they arent offered in the US new anymore. No wonder its hard to find parts for. No wonder nobody wants to work on them, no wonder so many people think they are bad cars.

Considering that, I guess a 20 year old Maserati must be a heap of junk, and a 1970 Citreon DS21 (one of the most innovative automobilesof its time) must be junk too, and Im willing to bet that an Alfa Romeo Milano is just the same. UNLESS you see past the marketing flaws, parts network, and mechanical support offered in the US. Unless you see the CAR. And that alone is enough for many to keep them on the roads.

Now talk about a YUGO and you have a whole other story. But a Peugeot is far from garbage. Its just misunderstood.
