Fewer than 1400 190D 2.5 turbos (201.128) were ever imported into the US. They were only imported in 1987 while there were maybe 20,000 190D 2.5 normally aspirated cars (201.126) imported between 1986 and 1989 (but most seem to have been sold in '86-'87).

There were about (estimate - I don't have Mercedes official numbers for this) 10,000 300D 2.5s (124.128) sold in the US between '90 and early '94 after which the normally aspirated E300D )using a naturally aspirated 4 valve per cylinder 6 cylinder engine) replaced it.

I had one of the 1400...
I had one (my first car), but my dad decided to sell it at ~90,000 miles because it was expensive to maintain (hadn't discovered the Indy yet), and it was having transmission problems (probably due to vacuum leaks). It was light blue metallic, I think it was called Diamond Blue, with Navy Blue MB-Tex.
It was a great car that I often wish I still had, but I fit in the SDL a little better anyway. :) We sold the car to a guy in Fairfax, so if anybody knows of its whereabouts, I'd like to know how it's doing. Oh yeah, talk about fast. :D I wanted to get the suspension upgrades and whatnot for the 190E 2.3 16 valve cars. That and a manual transmission would make it a really fun track car. |
