injectors 300D 1978 questions

i remember posting a long time ago about injectors 300D. well i finally just did them, replaced all 5 injectors and heat shields..but one problem...i didnt use a torque wrench and was wondering if it would have affected the job.

just wanted to know the symptoms of overtorquing the injectors and fuel lines....

now my car clatters a little more at low speeds but i can feel a little bit more power after the install on the new rebuilt injectors. also i get a liitle more smoke...one thing that i wanted to get rid of....

did i screw up my injectors or can i always retorque them..???

please help

hey...

I just did my injectors as well on my 240D. (about 5 days ago)

I think you should have torqued the injectors just for the fact that 60 foot pounds is nothing. When I took the injectors off I had to use a cheater pipe to get them off but when I installed them back I used one hand to tighten them. I did use a torque wrench as well.

Here is the thread that I had going a few days ago; check it out it may be of some help to you:

You're probably after an expert opinion, and mine isn't. Having said that the injector bodies are pretty solid, and I can't imagine over- tightening them would be a problem unless you're on them with a two foot extension. If you've gone to the trouble of replacing them you would probably be wise to check the pump timing, it being out by a couple of degrees can affect the amount of smoke you'll see, as well as the performance and noise. Good luck.

nice! thanks for the info; thats exactly what i had in mind 123300d that maybe a pump timing or valve clearances were off after the swap out. i'll definetley check this out next week....
