Anybody have this part? 003 545 6905

I need an A/C relay part #003 545 6905, the car is a 1987 300SDL. Fastlane wants $125 for a new one. I don't want A/C that bad, yet... But if someone has a good used one kicking around in a parts car.

Thanks

How do you know that relay is defective? This relay have (4) inputs an any defective input will prevent A/C to work. In my case temperature sensor was short.

The Klima relay is also subject to failed solder joints.

is this also known as the "Klima" relay? it has a core charge, I wonder if I take it apart I can fix it. Anyone every try this?

The test my dad and I did, mostly my dad, told us that this relay is bad. Although now I'm not 100% sure. We will do a little more testing but I think this relay is part of the problem. The CD I have says that If you jump two poles with a wire and the compressor comes on this relay is bad. This is black magic to me, my dad was doing it.

The Klima relay has 11 pins. Here goes:

1 == 31 == ground
2 == GM+ == engine rpm
3 == TD == used in gassers
4 == VL == WOT switch
5 == 15 == +12V
6 == 87K == AT kickdown circuit
7 == 87 == compressor
8 == blank ==
9 == GK+ == compressor rpm 1
10 == KL == signal from PBU
11 == GK- == compressor rpm 2
12 == T == 105/115 temp sensor

In an SDL you jump pins 5 and 7 to manually engage the compressor.

Seems like an awful lot of functionality in the Klima relay to chuck it if jumping 2 pins engages the AC compressor. That statement might have come at the end of a testing sequence.

I have no a/c or tacho on my 1995 E300D. Have bench tested OVP as described in other postings and is AOK. Have tried the above 5 to 7 bridge and compressor kicks in. Does this mean the Klima is the problem or could it be the tach amp or something else. How can i diagnose from here please Mr Sixto or anyone?

thanks
Keith

Sixto, I am assuming that you jump sockets 5 and 7 to manually engage the compressor. This is done without the Klima in place.

Then, if the compressor functions properly, the question remains on why the Klima won't engage the compressor.

This seems a bit more complicated because the Klima apparently compares rpm's from a couple of places and looks for temp below 115°C. before it will close the relay for the compressor. Any one of these inputs may be not to spec and a fully functional Klima won't close and engage the compressor.

I would suggest that there must be a test for each of the input signals to the Klima. Sockets 2, 9, 10, 11, and 12 must all be within spec or the relay won't close.

Correct?

Hattie, as with a lot of our Mb electrical problems is could probably be cured by simply removing it and cleaning the contacts and possibly even a resolder. Worst that can happen is you waste a half hour and it doesn't fix an already broken relay.

Thanks
David

Hattie, go online to the junkers hotlines and get one from the bone yard.
Don't pay money unless it has been tested.

I jumped my A/C comp by the sight glass.
Needed to jump it so I could put a charge of R134a into it.
Now it well fuction as it should with the ACC unit.
You have to to have a charge in it for it to function right?

Well I guess I should have finished this thread last year. My AC has been working great it really didn't need that much. I replaced the Kilma relay with one from Fastlane, and then found that the system had a leak which was coming from the condensor. Autozone has this part pretty cheap with a lifetime warranty. After I replaced those two parts I paid $50 to have the system recharged and it has worked just fine ever since.

So
$125 for the Kilma
$170 ish (I don't remember) for the condensor
$50 for the charge
= cold AC that is priceless on those hot days when you are stuck in traffic.

Is yours still r-12 or r-134a? If R-12, how did you get it charged for $50 unless you did it yourself?

Thanks
David

Mine was converted to 134 back in the early 90's. I wish it still was R-12 the AC isn't so great when you are sitting still. The place my dad works at has a shop that maintains all of their equipment. They cut me a deal on the AC system recharge.
